Purpose of this assignment is to:
1. Find who are your representaves in Texas legislave branch
2. Check their vong records and find how much you agree with your representaves on specific issue
You have to know who they are, how they vote, so you can hold them accountable!
So, let us begin this Assignment 2 exploring journey!
Assignment 2 Part A
The quickest way to find your representaves is “Who represents me” website!
Aer entering your current residence address, answer the following quesons (please, use complete
sentences. In parenthesis (I provided my answers as examples):
1. In which Texas House District do you currently reside?
(I currently live in Texas House district 131)
2. Who is your representave in the Texas House and what is her or his party affiliaon?
(My representave is Alma Allen. She is a Democrat.)
3. Who is your Texas Senator and what Texas Senate District she or he represents? What is your
senator’s party affiliaon?
(My Senator is Boris Miles and he represents Texas Senate District 13. He is Democrat)
4. When will your Senator face the next Texas Senate elecon?
(Senator Miles will face the next Texas Senate elecon in 2021.)
In the first part of Assignment 2, you learned who is your house representave and senator in the Texas
Congress!
Now let us check their vong records!
Assignment 2 Part B
Good and convenient place to go is the website votesmart.org.
First, you need to enter the name of your currently elected Texas House representave and Texas
Senate Representave. Secondly, you will click on his or her “votes”.
Aer clicking on “votes”, you will be prompted to a long list of different issues, from aboron and
agriculture to laws related to guns and marijuana legalizaon.
Please, make sure you choose 2 issues for each of your representaves (Texas House representave and
your Texas senator). Also provide the official name of the bill/ law that your representaves voted on.
Aer wring the issue (parcular bill/ law), describe how vong records of your representaves
correspond with your posion on this issue.
You either agree or disagree with your representaves.
Based on the fact whether you agree or disagree with your representaves, label each of your
representaves as “trustee” or “delegate” type representaves.
