Final Paper
Length: 1250-1500 words
Prompt: Select a passage from Fides et Ratio and write a short reflection that (1) shows that you recognize and understand the core idea your chosen
passage, (2) makes at least one meaningful connection with what we’ve learned this semester, and (3) attempts to make a positive application of the core
idea to your future studies at Salve Regina University. The passage you choose can be as short as one line, or up to a full paragraph.
**** This is the essential goal we’ve been discussing and working toward as we’ve slowly read our way through Fides et Ratio these final weeks. The only
changes are a reduced word count and you are no longer required to do additional research into secondary sources.
General Instructions:
You may use whatever citation method you’re accustomed to using, just be consistent.
Bibliography or a works consulted page is only necessary if you use texts that are not among the assigned readings from this semester.
Direct quotes do not count toward your final word count.
Up to, but not to exceed, ~25% of your paper may be deeply revised selections of prose you personally wrote and submitted previously in our course this
semester (i.e., reading journals & short essays).
Note: It is not required that you agree with the Christian outlook on faith and reason, and related themes. It is only required that you present the outlook as
accurately as you are able and on its own best terms. If you’d like to articulate your personal agreement or disagreement, personal satisfaction or
dissatisfaction with the Christian outlook, feel free to add an extra paragraph at the end or your essay (this would not count toward the total word count).
Let me know if you have any questions!
