There is no widely accepted framework for completing an institutional analysis (Wageningen University and Research, 2018). Therefore, for the purposes of
this course, this multi-module assignment uses a case study approach. The case study will analyze specific elements of a higher education institution for the
purpose of making recommendations for improvements. In the Modules 3-8 assignments, you will complete and submit individual sections of the
institutional analysis and compile the final paper in Module 9.
In a 2- to 3-page paper (not including the title and references pages), complete the first four sections of the institutional analysis. The selected institution
should be one of the three chosen for the mission analysis in Module 2. Do not identify the institution by name; use the selected pseudonym (Module 2)
instead.
Step 1. Research
Research your chosen higher education institution’s type, accreditation, and governance structure. Use the mission statement information from the Module 2
assignment. As a starting point, view the resources on the Learning Objects page.
Step 2. Categorize
Categorize the information into four parts by 1) mission, 2) institutional type, 3) accreditation, and 4) governance.
Mission: Content should contain the mission directly from the institution’s website, value statements, or other information related to the mission.
Institution Type: Content should include the institutional type and the Carnegie classification.
Accreditation: Content should include the descriiption of the institutional accreditor, specialized accreditation and approvals, and the standing of each.
Governance: Content should evaluate the operations, structures, and functions inherent in the institution’s type of governance. Conclude how this type of
governance relates to decision-making processes, the building of collaborations and partnerships, and community impact.
Step 3. Compile
Compile the information from Step 2 into a 3- to 5-page paper.
Step 4. Cite and Reference
Use APA format for the title and references pages. Use APA for in-text citations. You will add to the references page in Module 4.
